NIAGARA UNIV. — The Niagara University women’s basketball team hopes to rebound when they host the 7-2 Hartford Hawks at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gallagher Center.

The Purple Eagles dropped a tough game to Rider on Sunday as the Broncs defeated Niagara 78-58. Kaylee Stroemple led Niagara in scoring with 15 points, tying her season-high. Tiffany Corselli had a team-high eight rebounds to tie her career-high. Corselli and Morgan Baughman each added 12 points for the Purple Eagles, with Baughman tying her career-high. Victoria Rampado scored 10 points. She is the only Purple Eagle to score in double figures in each game so far this season. Maggie McIntyre and Jamie Sherburne led Niagara in assists with four each.

Rampado leads the Purple Eagles in both scoring and rebounding; she averages 16.9 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. Rampado also has a team-high five blocks. Stroemple and Corselli are also averaging double figure points for the Purple Eagles. Stroemple averages 11.1 points per game and Corelli averages 10.7 points per game. Corselli leads the team in steals with 11 and McIntyre averages a team-best 3.1 assists per game.

Senior guard Deanna Mayza leads the Hartford Hawks in scoring with 16.0 points per game and averages a team-best 5.3 assists per game. Lindsey Abed, a sophomore guard, leads the team in rebounding, averaging 4.9 rebounds per game, and has a team-high 21 steals. Senior forward Alyssa Reaves leads Hartford in blocks with eight. Abed and Sierra DeCosta, a freshman guard, are also scoring in double figures; Abed is averaging 12.2 points per game and DeCosta averages 11.7 points per game.

After Wednesday nights’ game, the Purple Eagles will match up with No. 20/19 Syracuse at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Carrier Dome. Following Syracuse, Niagara heads to Philadelphia to take on the Drexel Dragons on Dec. 13 at 5 p.m.
