The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released its final national rankings for the 2016 season, placing the Buffalo State women’s soccer team as the No. 21 team in the country after it advanced to the NCAA Championships this season.

The Bengals set a school record with 17 wins in 2016 and won both the SUNYAC regular season and post season titles for the first time in program history.  The Bengals also advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time, and got the chance to host the first and second rounds of the tournament here on Buffalo State’s campus.

Buffalo State broke into the Top 25 in week five of the polling season, and stayed in the national rankings for five-straight weeks before today’s release.  The Bengals reached as high as No. 14 this year, the highest mark ever received for the program.

The final ranking is another indicator of the great season that Buffalo State had this year.  The Bengals were already honored by winning the SUNYAC’s Offensive (Melissa Smith), Defensive (Kristin Seiferth), Rookie (Taylor Carillo) and Coach of the Year (Nicholas DeMarsh).

Four Bengals earned NSCAA All-Region honors while eight landed on one of the SUNYAC’s All-Conference teams.
