BUFFALO — Junior guard Saliah Serrette had a career weekend for the Blue and Gold and was honored by the conference by being named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Serrette averaged 19 points and five rebounds, as the Griffs went 1-1 in the opening weekend of MAAC play.

Serrette’s best statistical day came against the Rider Broncs, as the she poured in a career-high 23 points, and took down five boards in the one point loss. Against the Broncs she also added an assist and block and shot 80.0 percent from the field, hitting 8-of-10, and going 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.

On Sunday, Serrette maintained her productive play, helping the Griffs to its 20-point victory over Monmouth, by registering 15 points and five rebounds. She was once again deadly accurate in the paint, hitting 7-of-8 for 87.5 percent from the field. She also added one block and one assist to her stat line.

The Natick, Mass., native is ranked third on the team in scoring with 10 points per game and is one of five players to average double-figures through seven contests.

Canisius resumes its regular season with a crosstown non-conference matchup against Buffalo on Thursday. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Koessler Athletic Center.
