CORTLAND — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) picked its conference athletes of the week today, and announced that Buffalo State’s Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling/Pawling) was selected as the SUNYAC Goalie of the Week.
DeLaVergne has continued his dominance between the pipes this season, backstopping the Bengals (8-2-1) to a 3-0 week last week with a .962 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average. The senior business major made 27 saves in a 4-1 win over No. 4 Geneseo on Saturday, 22 stops in a 4-1 win at Brockport on Friday, and turned aside 27 of 28 shots in a 5-1 win at Nazareth on Tuesday.
DeLaVergne, a 2015-16 All-SUNYAC selection, leads the conference in wins (seven), goals against average (0.99), and save percentage (.963).
His goals against average and save percentage marks are both second-best in all of Division III.
DeLaVergne and the nationally-ranked Bengals return to action on Friday against Cortland at 7:07 p.m. at the Buffalo State College Ice Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Sports Channel and buffalostateathletics.com.
