AKRON, Ohio – The Buffalo swimming and diving team traveled to Akron University for day one of the annual Zippy Invitational on Friday. The women sit in second place and the men sit in third after day one events.

Megan Burns broke the University at Buffalo school record in the 50 Free, a record she broke during last season as well. She swam the event in 22.11, a first place finish and beating second place my over 0.7 seconds. The 200 Free Relay team consisting of Megan Burns, Eve Kosten, Sarah Baxter, and Andrea Ernst placed in second behind Akron with a time of 1:30.96. Hannah Miller remained impressive in the pool; clocking in at 4:52.20 in the 500 Free, just two seconds behind the first place finisher. Abbey Croce also took a first place finish at day one of the Zippy Invitational, scoring 285.15 on the one-meter dive.

The men saw success from many different athletes; with two first place finishes, two second place finishes, and one third place finish. Scott Huang took first place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:48.98. Troy Birdsall took first in the three-meter dive; posting a score of 367.55 (pool record). Right behind him was teammate Nick Rodriguez. Rodriguez posted a score of 331.05. Mason Miller and Charles Barry each swam to second place finishes. Miller took second in the 50 Free, clocking in at 20.09. Barry placed second in 500 Free with a time of 4:28.34. The 400 Medley Relay team of Hudson Carroll, Garrett Clarke, Miller, and Eric Jensen swam to a third place finish with a time of 3:16.96.

The Bulls are back in action Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
