BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo’s Track and Field team has signed four athletes to National Letters of Intent, head coach Vicki Mitchell announced. Brandon Burke, Shane McGuire, Asia McInnis, and Annie Kurdziel are will be joining the Bulls in the fall of 2017.

Brandon Burke, Byron-Bergen High School.

Brandon is the reigning Section V High Jump Champion with a personal best mark of 6’10”.  He is ranked #3 in New York State, and #14 Nationally.  Brandon is also a very strong horizontal jumper, and a multi-sport athlete playing soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter.  Brandon is going to continue the tradition of excellent UB High Jumpers.  We know Brandon has even more room for growth at the collegiate level because he only has had the opportunity to compete in outdoor track & field at his high school.  He has the focus, athletic ability, and work ethic to become a dominate jumper in the NCAA.  With Coach Esler’s coaching, Brandon will be reaching new heights at the University at Buffalo. Brandon will be studying Engineering, and will be in the UB Honors College.

Shane McGuire, Huntington High School.

Shane is the #1 ranked returning 800m runner in New York State.  He is the defending Section XI 800m Champion, and NYS finalist in the 800m with a personal best of 1:53.64.  Shane has only been running track for two years, and his future is unlimited. He possesses excellent speed as well and strong endurance.  Under Coach Witzleben’s training, he will continue to develop and be a strong force not only in the MAC but also the NCAA.  We are very excited to have Shane joining our program and continuing the tradition of middle distance running at the University at Buffalo.  Shane will be studying Criminology.

Asia McInnis, Arcadia High School.

Asia is the #1 ranked high jumper in Section V, and a NYS finalist with a personal best of 5’5.25″.  She is also the #5 ranked Triple Jumper in NYS with a personal best of 37’4.25″.    Asia brings strong athleticism as well as an excellent work ethic.  Combine those two components with Coach Esler’s coaching, and you have a winning combination to lead to excellence.  Asia will be pursuing her Nursing Degree at the University at Buffalo.

Annie Kurdziel, Monroe-Woodbury High School

Annie is a distance running stand-out.  She has great versatility ranging from the 1500m on the track to Cross Country.  She was the Runner-up in the OCIAA Championships, running a personal best mark of 18:01.78 over the hilly 3-mile course.  Annie has a bright future ahead of her athletically.  She has extremely high goals and knows that the University at Buffalo program will bring her to the MAC and NCAA Level.  Coach Mitchell is excited to work with Annie and see her develop into a top distance runner with our program.  Annie will be studying Pharmacy at the University at Buffalo.
