BUFFALO — Buffalo State could not overcome 25 turnovers as it suffered a 63-53 setback to visiting Plattsburgh in tonight’s SUNYAC season opener at the Sports Arena.

Grace Licata (Williamsville/Williamsville South) led Buffalo State with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to go with seven rebounds and four steals. Aaliyah Graham (Huntington/Elwood-John Glenn) added 13 points, and Caleh McLean (New Rochelle/New Rochelle) netted 11. Princella McCullough (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds and scored five points.
Plattsburgh led 31-26 at the intermission, and Buffalo State never led in the second half. The Cardinals pushed the lead to 10 in the third quarter, but the Bengals hung around and closed the margin to 47-45 with five minutes remaining in the contest. Plattsburgh scored the next five points to rebuild the cushion and pulled away for the victory. The Bengals held a 54-44 advantage in rebounds, but turnovers proved to be too costly. Buffalo State shot just 26 percent from the field for the game, compared to 38 percent shooting by Plattsburgh.

Buffalo State will host Potsdam for another SUNYAC battle Saturday at 4 p.m.
