BUFFALO — This evening’s matchup between the two highest-scoring offenses in the SUNYAC did not disappoint, but Buffalo State found itself on the wrong side of an 87-80 decision to Plattsburgh this evening in a SUNYAC contest at the Buffalo State College Sports Arena.

Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) tied a career-high with 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting and added 11 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season. Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) was second on the Bengals in scoring and finished the game with 20 points and five boards. Nico McLean (Buffalo/Amherst) added 12 points while J.O. Spence (Brooklyn/Bayard Rustin) chipped in seven. McLean led Buffalo State with six assists. The Bengals found themselves down 49-43 at the half.  Both teams came out of the gate with a hot hand, looking to score.  Buffalo State shot 47.5 percent from the field in the opening half while Plattsburgh sat at 45 percent. Plattsburgh was able to hold on throughout the second half, despite constant pressure from Buffalo State. The Bengals tied the game at 61 halfway through the half, but Plattsburgh answered right back with a 16-4 run that pushed the lead to 12 with six minutes left. The Bengals cooled off slightly from the opening half, and shot 35.9 percent from the field in the second, including 2-of-12 from long range. Buffalo State could not get closer than five points the rest of the game, as Plattsburgh held on to win 87-80.

Buffalo State hosts Potsdam in a SUNYAC game at 2 p.m. Saturday at the BSC Sports Arena.
