COLDEN — An 18-year-old Yorkshire man was pulled for a fiery crash this morning on Phillips Road. The driver of the vehicle, however, perished in the fire.
New York State Police say that around 6:36 a.m., Troopers responded to a one-car collision involving a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta that had been traveling north bound on Phillips Road and lost control at the crest of a hill. The Volkswagen left the roadway and entered the ditch on the west side of the roadway, causing it to overturn and come to rest on its roof.
Two other vehicles traveling on Phillips Road noticed a fire and realized it was a vehicle. One Good Samaritan called 911 and another went with a nearby homeowner for fire extinguishers. They tried to put the fire out, but the fire extinguishers had little impact. They grabbed the passenger, Hunter J. Delia, from the passenger side of the Volkswagen and pulled him from the vehicle. He is reportedly in stable condition. Due to the severity of the fire, the operator, Tristan C. Pleace, 18 of Arcade, was unable to be removed from the vehicle. Pleace was pronounced at the scene.
NYSP were assisted by Holland Fire Department and Colden Fire. Collison Reconstruction Unit was on scene. This is an ongoing investigation. Speed may be a factor in this Collison.
