BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving team heads to Akron, OH for the annual Zippy Invitational this weekend. The event is held Friday through Sunday at the University of Akron. This will be the women’s first meet since November 4th, when they welcomed Akron to the Alumni Arena Natatorium; and the men’s first meet since they traveled to Pittsburgh on October 28th.

In their most recent meet, the women’s team dominated in both the pool and the diving well. The Bulls took first place in eight different events in the pool. Hannah Miller blew competition away in the 1000 Free, clocking in at 10:14.05 – several seconds before second and third place. Miller also took first in the 500 Free with a time of 4:59.71. The Bulls also took first in the 200 Free (Megan Burns, 1:49.61), 200 IM (Sarah Baxter, 2:05.23), 50 Free (Burns, 22.82), 100 Free (Burns, 50.24), 200 Fly (Julia Box, 2:03.10), and 200 Free Relay (Eve Kosten, Catherine Schultheis, Baxter, and Burns, 1:32.97). In the diving well, Abbey Croce took first on both the one- and three-meter dives.

The men haven’t seen competition since late in October, and are eager to get back into the pool and diving well. The men traveled to Pittsburgh at the end of October for a non-conference meet. Mason Miller had an impressive performance in the pool, placing first in two individual events and was a part of the two winning relay teams. Ryan Gordon, Garrett Clarke, Miller, and Aaron Durrence took first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:31.04. Eric Jensen, Martin Leigh, Durrence, and Miller also took first place with a time of 3:02.31 in the 400 Free Relay. Miller also took first in the 50 Free and 100 Fly with times of 20.62 and 48.57, respectively.

The meet is set to begin Friday at 9:00 am.
