D1Baseball.com listed assistant baseball coach Matt Mazurek as the Metro Atllantic Athletic Conference’s top recruiter on Monday. The collegiate baseball website asked coaches from each conference to name its league’s top recruiter, and Mazurek was recognized by his MAAC peers.

Mazurek has become synonymous with Canisius baseball, serving as an assistant coach for nine seasons, including his first three years as a volunteer assistant. His coaching career comes after a successful playing career at Canisius, playing under head coach Mike McRae.

Mazurek was named the 2006 Canisius Male Athlete of the year, posting a team-leading .358 batting average to go along with 44 RBI and 18 stolen bases. He also set a school record that season with 68 hits.

Mazurek graduated from Canisius with a degree in physical education and he also received his master’s gegree in sport administration from the College in May 2012.
