WASHINGTON — New York State’s senior U.S. Senator, Chuck Schumer, will lead his party in the upper chamber of Congress.

Schumer, 65, was elected in a closed-door meeting this morning as the minority leader, replacing the retiring minority leader, Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada.

Schumer has said he’ll seek opportunities to work with President-elect Trump but must also deal with a fractured Democratic Party, some of which will push to oppose every move the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress make.
