FRIENDSHIP — Twenty-three-year-old Derek S. Foss of Belmont and an unidentified 18-year-old were charged with drug possession following a traffic stop on Sunday.

According to New York State Police, Foss was stopped on County Route 20 for an equipment violation.  While being interviewed, the strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. Subsequent investigation revealed Foss was in possession of marijuana and his 18-year-old passenger in the vehicle was in possession of marijuana and a small amount of cocaine.

Foss was charged with unlawful possession of marihuana and was released on tickets. He is scheduled to appear before the Town of Friendship Court on Nov. 19.  The 18-year-old was transported to SP Amity for processing and was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and UPM. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear before the Town of Friendship Court at a later date.
