BUFFALO — Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling/Pawling) turned aside 32 shots and Buffalo State scored four goals, including two in the third period to defeat Potsdam, 4-1 in a SUNYAC contest tonight at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.

Zach Nieminen (Ajax, ON/Notre DameCSS) got the Bengals on the board just three minutes into the game.  Marcus Michalski (Woodstock, ON/St. Mary’s Cathloic) had the puck at the point and slid it to Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, ON/Cardinal Carter) at the left faceoff dot.  Pryce one touched it to Nieminen who shot a one-timer from the front of the net that beat the goalie to make it 1-0, Buffalo State. Buffalo State and Potsdam played an even rest of the first, with the Bengals holding a slight 11-9 edge in shots.

Six minutes into the second, Buffalo State struck again.  Jake Rosen (East Amherst/Williamsville North) found Nieminen in the slot, and he ripped a shot right on the net.  Darren Young (Woodstock, ON/St. Mary’s) found himself right in front and cashed in the rebound to make it 2-0, Buffalo State. Potsdam answered less than two minutes later as Dylan Vander Esch scored on the power play to half the lead to 2-1. The two sides played a scoreless rest of the second, with Buffalo State still leading in shots, 26-20.

The Bengals started to pull away in the third.  Buffalo State found themselves on the power play with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.  Brody Power (Toronto, ON/Upper Canada College) had the puck at the point and flipped it to Hugo Petit (Chelsea, QC/CIH Academy) at the right faceoff dot.  Petit found Zach Remers (Clarence/Canisius) in the slot, and as he fell down, Remers one-timed the pass into the back of the net to make it 3-1, Bengals. Rosen iced the game with an empty net goal with three seconds remaining to give Buffalo State a 4-1 victory.

Buffalo State hosts SUNY Canton, next Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
