CLARENCE — An Amherst man was charged with driving while intoxicated following a Transit Road traffic stop.

According to New York State Police, Jacob Smith was driving on Transit Road when he was pulled over for making an improper turn and not staying in his lane.
Troopers report smelling an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Smith, who failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He provided a breath sample of .18 percent blood alcohol content.
Smith was released on appearance tickets to return to Clarence Court later this month.
