BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo men’s and women’s cross country team traveled to Bronx, NY to compete in the NCAA Northeast Regionals. The men and women raced against three nationally ranked, and 15 regionally ranked teams each. The two teams performed exceptionally and were able to finish second best in program history each.

The men took home an eighth place finish with five runners placing in the Top-100. They raced against nationally ranked Syracuse (fifth, first regionally), Iona (seventh, second regionally), and Providence (30th, third regionally); and regionally ranked Columbia (fourth), Dartmouth (fifth), Yale (sixth), Cornell (seventh), Northeastern (eighth), Brown (10th), Army West Point (11th), Stony Brook (12th), Maine (13th), Albany (14th), and Boston University (15th).  The eighth place finish from the men beat out Yale, Boston University, Stony Brook, Army West Point, Northeastern, and Albany; and was a second best in program history. Senior, Barrett Kemp led the way for the men, finishing in 37th place with a time of 31″36.68 and averaging a 5:06 mile. Also placing in the Top-100 with Kemp were teammates Andrew Berge (56th, 31:59.04), Justin Van Epps (64th, 32:05.76), Caleb Covell (68th, 32:10.43), and Franklyn Pfeil (75th, 32:18.13).

The women had a great showing as well. They raced against nationally ranked Providence (third, first regionally), Harvard (14th, second regionally), and Yale (23rd, third regionally); and regionally ranked Syracuse (fourth), Brown (fifth), Cornell (sixth), Dartmouth (seventh), Boston College (eighth), New Hampshire (ninth), Stony Brook (10th), Iona (11th), Columbia (12th), and Quinnipiac (15th). They placed twelfth overall, beating out Boston College and Quinnipiac by 17 and 77 points, respectively. Their finish was second best in program history. Freshman Stephanie Ward made history books again, being named to the All-Region team; a first in program history for a freshman. Ward was the first Bull to cross the finish line, placing 21st with a time of 21:08.30 and averaging a 5:41 mile. Joining her in the Top-100 were teammates Morgan Mahoney (75th, 22:00.80), Meagan Hopkins (76th, 22:01.50), Rachel Barich (83rd, 22:05.70), and Lauren Reyda (99th, 22:19.00).
