Three members of the Purple Eagles men’s swimming and diving team earned weekly accolades after wins over the University of Waterloo and Colgate University last weekend.

On Tuesday, Shawn Warner was named the MAAC Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com. On Wednesday, the MAAC honored Alexander Pizzo as its Male Swimmer of the Week and JaRon Williams as its Male Diver of the Week. Pizzo, Warner, and Williams helped the men’s swimming and diving team to a pair of victories in two home dual meets last weekend, scoring a 115-73 victory over the University of Waterloo on Saturday, before winning all 13 events and defeating Colgate University 157-78 on Sunday.

Pizzo won the men’s 500 free in both of Niagara’s meets last weekend, swimming a season-best 4:45.79 on Saturday against Waterloo before coming back Sunday against Colgate with a time of 4:51.20. Pizzo also earned a 1000 free first-place finish against Waterloo (9:58.46) and a 200 free win versus Colgate (1:46.09). Among MAAC swimmers this season, Pizzo holds the fifth-fastest 500 free time and the eleventh-fastest times in both the 200 free and 1000 free.

Warner took first in the 100 butterfly in both of Niagara’s meets, swimming a 51.35 against Waterloo and a 51.82 against Colgate the following day. The senior swam a 4:10.35 in the 400 IM versus Waterloo as well as a 1:54.23 in the 200 IM against Colgate. Both of those times were good for first-place finishes in the meet, and they are the top times by a MAAC swimmer in each event to this point in the season. Warner also helped Niagara to a 400 free relay victory against Waterloo and a 200 medley relay victory in the Colgate meet. This season, Warner also earned Male Swimmer of the Week honors from the MAAC on Oct. 12.

The Niagara divers only competed in Sunday’s meet against Colgate, and Williams took first in both of the men’s diving events. He took first in 3-meter diving with a score of 297.68, which was a career-best and moved him to second in the program’s top 10 for that event. Williams’ 259.50 in 1-meter diving against Colgate was also good for first place. The Niagara Falls, New York native previously set a career-best with a 301.57 in 1-meter diving at Binghamton on Oct. 22, which qualified him for the NCAA Zone Championships.

The Purple Eagles are back in action on Dec. 2, competing at the three-day Zippy Invite in Akron, Ohio.
