YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Niagara University women’s tennis team wrapped up play for the fall season at the Youngstown State Invitational from Friday to Sunday.

Four Purple Eagles picked up at least one victory in singles play.

In Flight A, Stella Peisakhova was the lone Purple Eagle to win her opening match in the main draw when she defeated Oakland’s Milic Marija, 7-6(7), 7-6(6). Peisakhova dropped her next match to UNOH’s Alisa Reshetnikova, 6-4, 6-4, to move into the consolation bracket where she would lose to YSU’s Macias Sofia and Oakland’s Artamonova Dasha. Shannon Wong lost all three of her matches in Flight A.

In Flight B, Ali Hutchinson, Sharlee Deshmukh and Sansriti Ranjan all went 1-3 in their respective matches. After losing her first match, Ranjan bounced back to defeat UNOH’s Aguilar Xiomara, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. Deshmukh topped UNOH’s Lacerda Ana, 1-6, 7-6, 10-5, and Hutchinson beat UNOH’s Xiomara, 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 in the consolation rounds.

The doubles team of Peisakhova and Deshmukh went 2-2. The pair picked up a 6-4 win over UNOH’s Vispoel and Lacerda, and a 6-3 win over UNOH’s Marques and Aguilar.

The Purple Eagles are back in action when they return to Youngstown to face YSU in a dual match on Jan. 20.
