Prices in gasoline are fairly unchanged in Western New York over the past week, according to AAA’s weekly fuel gauge.

The average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Buffalo is $2.33, up a penny from a week ago. In Rochester, the price is also $2.33, unchanged from last week.

Nationally, the price of gas is $2.21 per gallon, down a penny from a week ago. The New York State average is $2.38 per gallon, up 1 cent from last week and four cents higher than a year ago.

Although gasoline demand typically retreats during the fall due to lower driving demand and the switchover to winter-blend gasoline, continued unplanned refinery outages, along with refinery maintenance, could create volatility and put pressure on the national average in the near term.
