The Canisius swimming and diving teams competed against Geneseo in their home opening meet from the Burt Flickinger Center Saturday afternoon, with the men defeating the Knights 133.5–109.5, while the women lost 130.5-112.5.
In the victory, the men’s side saw five first place finishes including a win in the 200 free relay of Kyle Griffin, Michael Shenal, Cam MacDonald and Christian Westermeier.

Griffin would go on to place first in the 50 free with a time of 21.85, with Dan Dirrigl getting the top time in the 100 fly (51.62). Greg Staebell placed first in the 100 back (53.29), while Wyatt Sintay claimed the top spot in the 100 breast (1:00.77).

Rebecca Anthone led the way for the lady Griffs, finishing first in the 200 free (1:56.88) and the 500 free (5:12.60), while Marissa Watroba also won two events, the 200 IM (2:15.32) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.42).

Other first place finishes included Cassie Brousseau 100 back (1:00.19) and the medley relay of Brousseau, Watroba, Alize Allen and Hannah Graesser.

Travis Wright placed first in both the one and three meter diving events with scores of 295.30 and 360.05, while Brent Carbone finished second in the events scoring 284.4 in the one meter and 285.75 in the three meter. Vivian Mroz and Gianna Cornelia finished second and third in both events for the women.

The Griffs will next face Colgate from the Flickinger Center next Saturday at 2 p.m.
