KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team joined its Mid-American Conference foes in Kalamazoo, MI for the first day of the 2016 MAC Invite.  Today’s action included three rounds of doubles. UB picked up a flight victory in third doubles from freshman Hao Sheng Koay and junior Ethan Nittolo.

Koay and Nittolo swept their first match 8-0 against a duo from Toledo and then won 8-7 (3) against Matt Helm and Tom Carney of Ball State to move in to the finals where they defeated Carlos Manzanas and Erich Schuette of Northern Illinois, 8-5.

Petr Vodak and Vidit Vaghela won their opening match 8-2 against Ludovico Cestarollo and Inigo Saez of Binghamton before falling in a tiebreaker in the semifinals 8-7 (5) to Matt Hamilton and Nick Schrobel of Western Michigan.  The duo also dropped their final match of the day, 8-5.

Filip Grbic and Villhelm Fridell dropped their first two matches on Friday before coming away with an 8-5 victory in the seventh place match against Vince Anzalone and Reid Teastsorth of Toledo.

Singles action will begin Saturday morning with six flights. Two rounds will be played Saturday with the finals occurring on Sunday.
