The Canisius College swimming and diving program will open home play this Saturday with a meet against Geneseo from the Burt Flickinger Center at noon.

The Griffs are coming off of two first place finishes at the University of Rochester Invite that saw Canisius win their dual meets 471 – 114 against Brandeis University, and 362 – 235 over the host University of Rochester.

The Blue and Gold had 22 top finishes at the invite that included two first place finishes from Travis Wright, in the one and three meter diving events. Wright, who finished with a score of 355.70 in the one-meter event and 380.65 in the three meter, was named the MAAC Male Diver of the Week for his performance. Finishing second in both the one and three meter events was Brent Carbone, who now joins Wright as a qualifier for the 2016 NCAA Zone Diving Championships.

Rebecca Anthone and Marissa Watroba swam well for the women,  as Anthone finished first in the 200 and 500 free, and was a part of a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, while Watroba placed first in three events, the 400 yard individual medley (4:47.10), the 100 yard breaststroke (1:07.76) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:28.78).

For the men Greg Staebell had a strong performance with a first place effort in the 100 yard back (53.83) and 200 yard back (1:58.43), while Dan Dirrigl took the top spot in the 200 yard butterfly (1:58.39) and 500 free (5:00.84) .

The Griffs were defeated by Geneseo a year ago on the road, 126-117 on the men’s side, while the women fell 137-102.
