For the second time this season, Canisius volleyball freshman, Cassidy Ceriani, garnered Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference accolades on Tuesday, earning the MAAC Rookie of the Week award. Ceriani posted a historic match on Sunday, tallying the first triple-double for the program since the 2004 season. She also posted a double-double on Saturday.

The highlight of the weekend for the first-year player came in the final match of the weekend. Ceriani helped close out a weekend split in style, recording 10 kills, 30 assists and 12 digs to record the program’s first triple-double since Lindsay Garbacz during the 2004 campaign. Her effort helped the Griffs defeat Saint Peter’s for the series sweep, 3-1.

On Saturday, Ceriani also put forth a strong effort even though the Blue and Gold came out on the wrong end of the scoresheet. Against the Broncs, the San Diego, Calif., native recorded 38 assists and 12 digs and finished with four kills.

For the weekend the Griffs’ offensive quarterback averaged 3.00 digs per set, 1.75 kills per set and a 8.50 assists per set average.

Ceriani is currently ranked fifth in the league in assists per set with an 8.00 assists per set average and is the second-ranked freshman in that category.

The Blue and Gold come home for its second-to-last homestand of the season on Saturday and Sunday. Canisius will battle conference foes Siena on Saturday and Marist on Sunday. Both times are slated for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
