NEW ROCHELLE — The Purple Eagles fell 2-1 to the Iona Gaels in their final road trip of the regular season on Saturday.

The Gaels got on the board first, scoring in the 30th minute to give themselves a 1-0 lead.  Niagara answered quickly. Bicknell scored her second goal of the season on a long shot which deflected off the goalkeeper’s hands and went into the net to tie the score 1-1. Iona put the game away in the 80th minute, scoring the final goal of the match. Bicknell took shots in both the 81st and 88th minutes to try and tie up the score, but both were saved by Iona’s keeper.

Bicknell led the Purple Eagles with five shots. All five were shots on goal. Niagara outshot Iona 10 to eight in the first half of the game and 13 to 12 overall.

The Purple Eagles close out the regular season on Wednesday when they host Marist at 3 p.m.
