The Canisius College hockey team will open Atlantic Hockey play this weekend, when they take on Robert Morris from the HARBORCENTER Friday and Saturday evening at 7:35 p.m. ET.

The Griffs went 1-3-0 against the Colonials a season ago, allowing six goals in three-of-four contests. Canisius is coming off of a 1-1 weekend at the 2016 Brice Alaska Goal Rush, which saw the team get a 2-1 overtime victory over Alaska Friday night.

Canisius is 1-3-0 to begin the season after being swept by defending national champion North Dakota two weekends ago, and splitting last weekend’s games from the 2016 Brice Alaska Goal Rush Tournament. Freshmen Casey Jerry and Matt Stief lead the Blue and Gold in points with two each. The Griffs saw strong performances from their goaltenders this past weekend, with Senior goaltender Charles Williams making 27 saves against Alaska to gain his first career victory in a Canisius uniform. Freshman goaltender Daniel Urbani made his collegiate debut on Saturday vs. Alaska Anchorage, allowing one goal on 25 saves.

The Golden Griffins went 1-1 last weekend from the 2016 Brice Alaska Goal Rush in Fairbanks, Alaksa. The Blue and Gold defeated Alaska 2-1 in overtime on Friday evening, before losing to Alaska Anchorage on Saturday afternoon 1-0. Senior Geoff Fortman recorded the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime win against Alaska (his second career goal), while sophomore Dylan McLaughlin scored the teams first goal of the weekend to tie the game in the third. The Griffs nearly sent game two to overtime, when freshman Jesse Pereira hit the post on a shot with five seconds remaining in the game. Fortman and McLaughlin were named to the 2016 Brice Alaska Goal Rush All-Tournament team for their play over the weekend.
