FREDONIA — In Friday’s season-opening dual meet, the Purple Eagles men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams kicked off the new year in dynamic fashion. Niagara won 21 of 26 events as the women’s team earned a 151-82 victory, while the men’s team pulled away with a final score of 131-99.

Niagara was led in the pool by James Crumm and Shawn Warner, who each won two individual events. Warner set a Niagara program record in the 100 IM, which was also a pool record at the Steele Hall Natatorium. The Purple Eagles men also broke the school’s 200 free relay record.

Three freshman women’s swimmers, Lauren Nicastro, Nastassja Posso, and Kristen Suarez, were double winners in the meet as well. Julia Casolo recorded the program’s fastest 100 butterfly time in a dual meet.

After an alumni meet back at the Oxy Aquatic Center Saturday morning at 9 a.m., the Purple Eagles prepare for a double-dual meet at Binghamton University, as they will take on the Bearcats and the Siena Saints on Saturday, Oct. 22.
