CORTLAND — Buffalo State dropped a heartbreaker, as Cortland scored its only goal in the 87th minute to give the Red Dragons a 1-0 win at Jets Field this afternoon.

It looked like a slugfest out of the gate, with both teams trading chances back-and-forth in the first half. While neither team could score, Buffalo State held an 11-5 advantage heading into the second.
The roles were slightly reversed in the second half, as Cortland generated 11 shots to Buffalo State’s six. The difference maker was scored by Cortland’s Nick Tata in the 87th minute after Michael Miner found him open down the wing.  Tata ripped the shot inside the left post from the right side of the box for the game-winner with just 2:13 left to play. Buffalo State tried for one final rush, but was ruled offside with just 45 seconds remaining, essentially ending it.

Keeper William Banahene (Rochester/Brighton) made four stops in the losing effort. Tristan Myers (Rochester/Webster Thomas) generated the most chances for the Bengals, with three of his five shots hitting the net.

Buffalo State will return home to Coyer Field to take on Plattsburgh on at 3 p.m. Friday.
