Republicans far and wide may be calling for presidential candidate Donald Trump to remove himself from the GOP ticket, but Western New York’s House members are not among them.

U.S. Rep. Chris Collins, the first member of Congress to endorse Trump’s candidacy, called the GOP’s standard bearer’s comments about women — as recently released from a 2005 audio recording — “disappointing and frankly unacceptable,” but did not revoke his endorsement in a statement released today.

The comments made by Mr. Trump were disappointing, and frankly unacceptable. There is no room in our society for comments like these. Mr. Trump has since apologized for his actions. There is no change in my support of Mr. Trump as our nominee because he remains the only candidate who will bring our jobs back, secure our borders and stand up to our enemies.”

Congressman Tom Reed also condemned Trump’s comments, but like Collins, did not withdraw his support. His statement on the matter follows:

Women are never to be talked about in this way. As someone with eight older sisters, a wife and daughter I care deeply about, it is disappointing and offensive to hear these words. It is not right and these comments must be called out for what they are, just wrong.”

Two days ago, a former Western New York congressman, Amo Houghton, was one of 30 former GOP congressmen to appeal to voters to vote for anyone but Trump.
