SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — The Buffalo Sabres lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in a pre-season match Wednesday night. They also lost a key component to the roster — Ryan O’Reilly.

O’Reilly, was was playing in his first preseason game since playing for Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey, left the game with a lower body injury.

Sabres goals were scored by Justin Bailey and Evander Kane. Roland McKeown and Elias Lindholm scored regulation goals for the Hurricanes, while it was Jeff Skinner’s shootout goal that gave Carolina the victory.

The Sabres play their final game of the pre-season against Ottawa at 7 p.m. Friday at Canadian Tire Centre.
