After dropping a pair of road MAC matches to open up their conference slate, the Bulls returned home last weekend and leveled out their record with a pair of shutout victories over Bowling Green and Toledo. Buffalo completely dominated the Falcons on Friday night at UB Stadium as they collected a 2-0 shutout behind goals from Andrea Niper and Carissima Cutrona. On Sunday, Moira Petrie netted her first career goal, the game-winner, as the Bulls collected their second straight clean sheet with the 1-0 win over the Rockets. Junior goalkeeper Laura Dougall made three saves in each match as she added to her program record for shutouts in a career with her 25th career clean sheet.
The Bulls began to really click this past weekend especially in the defensive third of the field as the back line of Adrianna VanCuyck, Angel Hart, Gurjeena Jandu and Ashley Evans seemed to be really comfortable working as a cohesive group and earned a pair of clean sheets. The Buffalo defense didn’t allow any dangerous opportunities as they allowed just six shots on goal over the two victories.
The UB offense is led by redshirt sophomore Carissima Cutrona who has netted a career-high seven goals and 14 points on 27 shots this season while leading the team with three game-winning goals. Senior Andrea Niper has had a huge presence on set pieces for the Bulls as she has earned two header goals while fellow midfielder Moira Petrie continues to impress as she has netted a goal and two assists for four points. Sophomore Nicole Gerritz has added some speed up front for the Bulls and she leads Buffalo with three helpers on the year.
In goal, Laura Dougall has started 10 matches and owns a 4-5-1 record to go along with a 0.72 goals-against average and a .860 save percentage. The junior has made 43 saves while earning four shutouts on the year. The Pickering, Ontario native already owns the program record for shutouts in a career (25) and now sits just four wins shy of tying the program record for wins as she has 30 career victories in the blue and white.
The Ohio Bobcats enter Thursday night’s match with a 2-8-1 overall record and a 0-4-0 MAC mark. The Bobcats dropped a pair of conference matches this past weekend at home as they fell 2-0 to Western Michigan on Friday and 2-1 to Northern Illinois on Sunday. The Ohio offensive attack is paced by a pair of players as freshman Remi Eades and Bryce Hueber have notched two goals and two assists for six points. Courtney Daugerdas has netted a pair of goals for four points while freshman defender Sydney Leckie has netted a goal and two assists for four points. In goal, Erin Beurket has made eight starts and she owns a 1.68 goals-against average while making 45 stops and one clean sheet for the Bobcats this season.
After Thursday’s match against Ohio, the Bulls will hit the road for their first of three straight conference road matches as they take on Kent State on Sunday. Kick is set for 1 p.m. Sunday in Kent, Ohio.
