BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team (5-5-2, 2-2-0 MAC) collected their second straight shut out at UB Stadium on Sunday afternoon as Moira Petrie netted her first career goal, the game winner, in the 48th minute of play as UB downed Toledo 1-0. The win gives UB a 5-0-1 record at UB Stadium this season and the Bulls improved to 22-1-4 at home over their last three seasons.

The Rockets were able to notch the first shot of the match in the fourth minute as Isabella Echeverri ripped a shot from 25 yards out that Laura Dougall made a diving stop on. In the 5th minute, Carissima Cutrona forced a foul and free kick just outside the box. On the ensuing kick, Andrea Niper had a low blast that was grabbed by the Toledo keeper. The Rockets had a dangerous chance in the 16th minute as Brooke Maletic took a long shot that Laura Dougall made a nice save to her left on. The Rockets were able to keep the match scoreless in the 20th minute as Nicole Gerritz had a dangerous right-footed shot that was saved by a diving keeper. Kara Daly made a nice run down the right wing in the 38th minute and took a shot that was grabbed by the Toledo keeper.

The Bulls grabbed the 1-0 lead in the 48th minute of play as Celina Carrero dropped a pass to Moira Petrie who ripped a shot over the keepers head and into the left corner of the net. The goal for Petrie was the first of her UB career. In the 64th minute, Moira Petrie had a great chance for her second of the match but her right-footed boot was saved by a leaping keeper as she punched it over the cage and out of harms way after a nice feed from Celina Carrero. Andrea Niper made a great pass to the back corner in the 66th minute but Carissima Cutrona’s diving shot attempt went just wide of the cage, keeping the score 1-0 in favor of UB. Laura Dougall came up with a nice stop in the 73rd minute as she turned away a hard low shot by Toledo leading scorer Kiersten Johnson.
Toledo had a long shot in the 83rd minute as Alex Troy ripped a shot that went wide of the right corner. Carissima Cutrona forced a foul and a free kick in the 86th minute but the ensuing kick by Andrea Niper just missed the lower left corner of the goal. The UB defense held the Rockets without a shot over the final three minutes of play as they earned their second straight clean sheet.

With the win, the Bulls have now won five straight matches against the Rockets. The win also moves the Bulls home record to 5-0-1 on the year. Buffalo has been dominant at home over the past three seasons as they own a 22-1-4 record at UB Stadium.

The Bulls will return to UB Stadium at 7 p.m. Thursday for their third straight home match as they welcome Ohio.
