FREDONIA — Buffalo State erased a two-set deficit but could not convert in the final frame, dropping a five-set decision to Hilbert tonight at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational.
Hilbert started fast, winning the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-14, but Buffalo State turned the tables. The Bengals edged the Hawks, 26-24, in the third set, and then evened the match with a 25-13 win in set four. Hilbert regrouped, however, and took the deciding set, 15-12. Riley Chapman (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) led the Bengals with 11 kills and three aces and 16 added digs. Bryanna Fisher (Brooklyn/Midwood) chipped in 10 kills and four blocks. Katherine Marte (Ithaca/Ithaca) had 36 assists and 13 digs, while Victoria Rigler (Amherst/Sweet Home) had a team-best 25 digs.
Buffalo State will wrap up the Blue Devil Invitational Sunday with a noon match against RIT before taking on host Fredonia at 2 p.m.
