SPRINGVILLE — Canisius freshman David Hanes posted a 36-hole score of 139, highlighted by a career-low 66 in the second round, en route to winning individual medalist honors at the annual Little 3 Golf Championship, held Wednesday at Springville Country Club.

Hanes, who is the third Canisius golfer to win medalist honors at the Little 3 Championship since 2012, officially earns a berth into the 2017 Porter Cup with his victory on Wednesday.

Hanes’ five-under score of 66 on Wednesday is the lowest round for a Canisius golfer since former Griff Drew Creighton shot a school-record 65 at Montour Heights Country Club outside of Pittsburgh, Pa., Oct. 8, 2007. The five-under score in round two matches the lowest round for a Canisius golfer in the Little 3 Championship as well. Former Griff Michael Carrig fired a five-under score of 67 to set the course record at Harvest Hill during the first round of the 2012 Little 3.

St. Bonaventure captured the team title with a 36-hole team score of 735. Canisius took second with a team score of 768 and Niagara finished in third after posting a team score of 793. The team title is the Bonnies’ 39th Little 3 victory since the event started in 1952.

Senior Cory Cullen placed sixth in the field after he shot a two-round score of 150. Sophomore John Dantonio placed 11th after carding a 156.

The golf team will return to the course Oct. 2-3 when the team travels to Apalachin to take part in the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational at the Links at Hiawatha.
