BINGHAMTON — The Niagara University men’s tennis team played in its second invitational of the fall season where they faced competition from the host Binghamton, Colgate, NJIT, St. Thomas Aquinas and Buffalo.

Felipe Fuentes went 1-2. He won his opening round match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Javier Munoz from St. Thomas Aquinas before dropping his next two matches to Binghamton’s Ludovico Cestarollo and Valentine Bouchet. Josh Wilson lost to Binghamton’s Thomas Caputo.

Francis Nadeau went 1-1. He defeated Colgate’s Win Reynolds, 6-2, 6-2, before losing to Binghamton’s Josh Druger, 7-6(6), 6-4.Taylan Ozdemir picked up a third place finish, winning three of his four matches. He defeated NJIT’s Luka Kaic, 6-3, 6-4 and Binghamton’s Frenk Kote, 6-4, 7-6(3), to advance to the semifinals where he was defeated by NJIT’s Aleksa Petrovic, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5.

In the third place match, Ozdemir took down Druger in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Brent Boleslav split a pair of matches. After falling to Binghamton’s Agustin Cattoretti in three sets, he bounced back to UB’s Dino Tsakris, 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.  Chris Grossi dropped all three of his matches.Boleslav did play an extra match and defeated Colgate’s Carmon Swanson, 6-3, 6-3.

Fuentes and Wilson went 2-2. The duo won its opening round match against UB’s Fridell and Tsakris, 6-3, but lost in the next round to Binghamton’s Cestarollo and Lourenco. In the consolation round, the pair went 1-1 with a victory over Binghamton’s Valenti and Caputo.Nadeau and Ozdemir went 1-3 with the duo only win coming against NJIT’s Castagna and Kaic, 6-4.

The team of Boleslav and Grossi finished atop of its draw in the round robin format. The duo went 2-1 with wins over NJIT’s Arrutia and Allende and St. Thomas’ Corsie and Munoz.

The Purple Eagles will play in the Rocket Invitational hosted by the University of Toledo from Friday through Sunday.
