NIAGARA FALLS — A 23-year-old Niagara Falls man was hospitalized after a Saturday afternoon traffic stop on Niagara Falls Boulevard.

According to New York State Police, Regis M. Cox had vomited in the processing area of the Niagara Troopers’ barracks “and then subsequently attempted to retrieve something out of the garbage can. Troopers prevented him from retrieving anything out of the garbage can and upon inspection they discovered remnants of a plastic bag possibly containing the residue of a controlled substance.”

It was then that Cox became unresponsive and Troopers had to begin life saving measures whlie contacting emergency medical services. Cox was then transported to Mount Saint Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston where a preliminary toxicology screen conducted at the hospital indicated the presence of cocaine.

It all started around 12:30 p.m. when Troopers stopped a 1995 Infinity, for tinted windows and failing to signal lane change on Niagara Falls Boulevard. Troopers began a vehicle search after they detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle while interviewing Cox, who was driving the vehicle.

During the search of the vehicle, Troopers located crack cocaine. Cox denied possession, as did his passenger, later identified as Diamond Ubiles, 21 of Lockport, who gave Troopers a fake name initially. Both were transported to SP Niagara processing, where Cox had his medical emergency.

Cox is being charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and traffic violations. Ubiles was subsequently charged with second-degree criminal impersonation and given an appearance ticket.
