In conjunction with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, the Canisius women’s basketball team announced its complete 2016-17 schedule on Monday.

The Griffs begin their quest for the 2017 MAAC Championship in early December, opening MAAC play at home against Rider on Dec. 2 and Monmouth on Dec. 4.

The Blue and Gold follow-up a swath of non-conference contests with its final game of 2016, as the squad heads to New Rochelle, N.Y. to play Iona. Canisius then rings in the New Year on the road at Manhattan on Jan. 2.

Following a home stand against Marist on Jan. 5 and Quinnipiac on Jan. 7, Canisius heads out on a quick road trip stopping at Saint Peter’s on Jan. 13, Monmouth on Jan. 15, and coming home to play Niagara, in Lewiston, N.Y. on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

A home game against Fairfield on Jan. 22, gives the Griffs a respite from the road, however the squad packs its bags for the final pair of games of the month, squaring off with Siena on Jan. 26 and Marist on Jan. 28.

Canisius fans will have an opportunity to see the Griffs plenty at home during the month of February, playing five of the team’s eight games at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Blue and Gold opens up the month at home against Manhattan (Feb. 2), Iona (Feb. 4) and Niagara (Feb. 10). A quick trip to Rider on Feb. 12 breaks up the stand, but Canisius returns home for its final two two contests at the KAC on Feb. 16 vs. Saint Peter’s, and against Siena on Feb. 18.

Canisius wraps up the regular season on Feb. 23 and Feb. 25, taking on Fairfield and Quinnipiac, respectively.

The Griffs gear up for the conference tournament shortly after, preparing for the 2017 MAAC Basketball Championship to be held at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. The tournament begins on Thursday March 2, and will run through the weekend.

As a squad the Blue and Gold finished the season 13-17 overall and 8-12 in conference action. The Griffs return 10 letterwinners from 2015-16 and three of the top four leading scorers, in Margret Halfdanardottir, Maria Welch and Lauren D’Hont. The Griffs will also be bolstered by the return of one of their key veterans that sat out the entire season last year, as Emily Weber returns to the fold.
