Canisius freshman Gretta Dry was named the MAAC Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week on Monday after she recorded a three-point game at Fairfield with a goal and an assist. Dry is the first Canisius player to be honored by the conference office this season.

In Canisius’ 2-1 overtime win at Fairfield Sept. 17, Dry evened the contest at 1-1 in the game’s 81st minute with an unassisted goal, her team-leading third goal of the season. In overtime, the Lockport native set-up the game-winning tally, which was scored by teammate Sabrina Fitzgerald. The win, Canisius’ first against Fairfield since 2010, helped the Griffs start MAAC play with a victory for the first time since 2011.

Dry leads Canisius with nine points this season on the power of three goals and three assists. In all three of the team’s wins this season, Dry has recorded a goal and an assist for the Blue and Gold.

The Griffs will return to action Saturday when the team travels to play at Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
