The Buffalo State men’s soccer team swept the SUNYAC awards this week, with forward Tristan Myers being named the conference’s Offensive Athlete of the Week and goalkeeper William Banahene taking home the Defensive Athlete of the Week honors.

The strong performances from Banahene and Myers helped the Bengals win the Fredonia Blue Devil Classic this past weekend, and have the team off to a 3-1-1 start.

Myers scored four goals in three games and was named MVP of the Blue Devil Classic. He started the week with his first goal of the season in a 4-0 win over Medaille on Tuesday. He then netted a hat trick in a 4-1 win over Baldwin Wallace on Friday and added three shots in a 0-0 tie against Houghton on Saturday that was enough to clinch the tournament title for the Bengals.

The junior had scored one goal in his first 38 games as a Bengal before striking four times in the two-game stretch.

Banahene backstopped the Bengals to a championship at the Blue Devil Classic and added a win against Medaille earlier in the week. The senior recorded his second and third shutouts of the season with a four-save performance in a 4-0 win over Medaille, and made two stops in a 0-0 draw against Houghton. He also had six stops in a 4-1 win over Baldwin Wallace. In three games, Banahene had a 0.33 GAA and a .923 save percentage. He was selected to the Fredonia Classic All-Tournament Team.

Buffalo State returns to the pitch tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the University of Rochester.  The Bengals hop right back on the bus and return home for a jammed-packed weekend at Coyer Field.  The Bengals kick things off against D’Youville on Friday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. and follow it on Saturday, Sept. 17 with a match against Clarkson, also starting at 4 p.m.
