STATESBORO, Ga. – The University at Buffalo volleyball team was swept by ACC foe Wake Forest 3-0 on the final day of the Springhill Suites Invitational on the campus of Georgia Southern University.

Wake Forest took the contest 25-21, 25-13, 25-19 as the Demon Deacons were able to overcome a strong Buffalo charge in the first set before easier wins in the second and third sets.

The Bulls trailed early in the first when a pair of service aces from freshman Scout McLerran tied it up at 5-5.  A kill by McLerran gave UB a 14-10 lead in the set and the Bulls continued to lead by four at 18-14 when Wake Forest ended the set on an 11-3 run.

The Demon Deacons then won the second set 25-13 and the third set 25-19. UB showed some fight in the final set though after Wake Forest got out to an early 12-5 lead.  The Demon Deacons continued to lead 18-11 when the Bulls pulled within 22-17.  However, Wake Forest took the set 25-19.

Junior Cassie Shado led the Bulls with eight kills and just one error on 11 swings as she led all players by hitting .636.  Following the match, Shado was named to the All-Tournament Team.  Watkins added six kills, while Megan Wernette had four.  McLerran had three kills, 21 assists, two aces, and nine digs.

Freshman Hannah Watson also added nine digs for the Bulls and Watkins finished with seven.  UB had 10.0 total blocks, led by five from Wernette and four from Shado.

The Bulls will return to action on Tuesday evening.
