NEW YORK — There appears to be a volley of words between the New York State Attorney General’s office and the presidential campaign for Donald J. Trump.

Trump had taken a swipe a the Attorney General’s office on Tuesday for not pursuing legal action against Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation for the manner in which it did — or didn’t — disclose contributions from foreign governments.

In a statement Trump’s campaign released Tuesday afternoon, he referred to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman as “New York’s highly partisan Attorney General,” and said he is “turning a blind eye to the Clinton Foundation’s failure to follow state disclosure laws.”

However, Schneiderman’s office hit back Tuesday evening with a release of its own, saying “We do not take advice on who to investigate from Donald Trump, who has already been sued by this office for his long-running and wide-ranging scam known as Trump University that defrauded thousands of ordinary Americans just so Mr. Trump could make another quick buck.”

The release went on to say that “The Clinton Foundation’s disclosures regarding funding from foreign governments are in compliance with New York law.”
