BUFFALO — Following another strong weekend on the pitch for the University at Buffalo men’s soccer team (4-0-0, 0-0-0 MAC), senior captain Russell Cicerone has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The reigning MAC Player of the Year has started this season out on fire and that continued this weekend as he helped the Bulls improve to 4-0-0 on the year with a pair of victories over Stony Brook and Incarnate Word.

In Friday’s 3-0 victory over Stony Brook, the talented forward finished off his impressive match with a goal and two assists including a pretty assist on the game-winning goal by Rikard Lindqvist. Cicerone’s goal came in the 57th minute of play as he was dragged down inside the 18-yard box and given a penalty kick which he converted on with a perfect shot just inside the left post. He later assisted on Braden Scales’ goal as he sent a perfect cross into the box and Scales finished off his second goal of the season.

On Sunday, Cicerone was the Bulls best player on the pitch once again as he notched three shots for the match. The Bloomfield Hills, MI native also notched his first game-winner of the season as Rikard Lindqvist drew a penalty kick that Cicerone buried into the right corner of the net.

Cicerone currently leads the nation in goals (7) and points (18) as he has been able to notch at least one point in all four cleansheet victories for the Bulls this season. Dating back to last season, Cicerone has recorded at least one point in 12 of his last 13 regular season matches for the Blue and White.

For his career, Cicerone ranks second in program history in goals (35) assists (17) and points (87) while also setting the program record for goals (5) and points (11) in a single match, earlier this season against Daemen.

Buffalo is currently the only team in the nation with a perfect 4-0 record with four shutouts. The Bulls will return to the pitch with a pair of road matches this weekend as they will take on VMI at 1 p.m. on Friday and Liberty at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
