Buffalo State junior swimmer Connor Mergler (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) has been named a preseason All-American in the 50 and 100 free by CollegeSwimming.com.

Mergler became Buffalo State’s first swimming All-American since 1976 last season as a sophomore, collecting the honor three times at the NCAA Championships.  The business major placed fourth in the 100 free, sixth in the 50 free and 16th in the 200 free.  He was also honored as the SUNYAC Male Swimmer of the Year and was named the SUNYAC Male Swimmer of the Meet after claiming titles in all three events at the conference championship meet.  Mergler set school and SUNYAC records in all three events and also set new school records in the 100 fly and 200 and 400 free relays.

Mergler and the Bengals will open the 2016-17 season on Oct. 22 against Wells College.
