ROCHESTER — The Buffalo Bisons scored in the ninth to take a one-run lead but couldn’t hang on as Daniel Palka ended Friday’s frenzy at Frontier Field with a two-run home run, giving the Red Wings the 4-2 victory.

A.J. Jimenez gave the Herd a short-lived 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth, driving in Dalton Pompey (pinch running for Chris Colabello) with a single through the right side of the infield.

However, Bo Schultz gave up a walk and a pair of singles in the home half of the frame, allowing the Wings to plate the tying run.

The hard-throwing closer was still on the hill in the 10th and followed up a leadoff single to Wilfredo Tovar with a pair of outs. Schultz was unable to get the third as Palka sent a 1-2 offering over the wall in right for the win.

In his 12th start for the Bisons this year, Casey Lawrence lasted a season-high 7.1 innings. The slender righty worked efficiently, needing just 57 pitches to get through the first five innings. With the game tied 1-1 and two men on in the sixth, Lawrence buckled down with back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the jam.

The 28-year finished with five K’s, allowing one run on five hits.

Aaron Loup took over for Lawrence and laid waste to the heart of the Wings’ lineup. The cross-firing reliever sat down Rochester’s two, three and four batters in order – all on strikeouts.

Melky Mesa wasted no time with his opportunity to bat leadoff. The speedy outfielder took the first pitch of the game to the wall in right-center field for a triple.

Mesa crossed home a couple of batters later for the opening run of the night as Matt Dominguez grounded out to third.
