LOCKPORT — The Lockport Police Department has declared that the area surrounding High Tread International on Ohio Street at Stevens Street is a “crime scene” according to Mayor Anne McCaffrey.

There have been claims by High Tread’s owner that the fire was intentionally set by teens. He says there’s video proof of it. However, McCaffrey said the “crime scene” designation is because a 14-year-old boy who lives in the neighborhood remains missing. The woman’s mother has told police she believes he may have been in the fire.

Some evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes Thursday night. Others, it is speculated, won’t be allowed to do so until Saturday.

We’ll bring you more details when we get them.
