LOCKPORT — The majority of residents who were asked to vacate their homes Wednesday night due to the fire at High Tread International are going to be allowed to return home tonight.

According to Mayor Anne McCaffrey, all residents not living on Stevens Street can return to their homes at 7 p.m.

The evacuation remains in effect for Stevens Street residents, however. It is not known exactly when they’ll be allowed to return to their homes.

UPDATE: (6:57 p.m.): Lockport Mayor Anne McCaffrey says Stevens Street residents can return home, as well but must park “down the street.” Additionally, Modern will pick up garbage in the neighborhood on Monday. Also, the city asks all non-residents to stay away from the area as there continues to be much work to be done.
