Mr. George V. Henel of Amherst, NY died July 21, 2016 after a long illness. He was 72.

Born in Buffalo, NY, George was the son of the late Joseph and Irene Henel. Mr. Henel grew up in Kenmore and attended St. John the Baptist School, Canisius High School, The University of Detroit, and the University at Buffalo School of Law. He began his career working for the family business, the Henel Bros. Kenmore Dairy, which was founded by his Father in 1925. Mr. Henel served as the Chief Financial Officer overseeing the eventual sale and closing of the Dairy which was known locally for producing milk, dairy products, and ice cream. He settled in Amherst and went on to practice law in Buffalo and was admitted to the New York and Florida Bar Associations. After retiring from law Mr. Henel became an astute financial investor and founded Empire Capital Management Co. where he was a respected financial advisor featured in an article of Business Week Magazine. Mr. Henel was also a licensed pilot, avid skier, and boater. He was a long time member of the Buffalo Launch Club on Grand Island.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years Sharon, son Christopher M, daughter-in-law Jessica and daughter Lindsay, along with his two cherished grandchildren, Reagan and Nathan. Mr. Henel is also survived by his brothers Robert and Gerald and his sisters Alice, Arlene “Joy”, Donna, and Rosemary Kort along with many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home at 1671 Maple Road, Williamsville, NY 14221 from 4-8 PM on Monday July 25th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church 1317 Eggert Rd Eggertsville, NY at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 26th. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mr. Henel’s honor to Canisius High School 1180 Delaware Ave Buffalo, NY 14209.
