A major water main break in Amherst Wednesday night has led to residents in northern Erie County being told to boil their water before using it this morning.
Affected communities include Amherst, Clarence, Depew, Lancaster, Newstead, Snyder and Williamsville.
A 36-inch water line burst near the Millersport Highway, according to the Erie County Water Authority. Water pressure was restored shortly before midnight, followed by the advisory to boil water until the water authority can attest to the water’s safety — which may take 2-3 days.
The cause of the leak is under investigation.
