COLDEN — A 19-year-old Sardinia man was charged early this morning with felony vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault in relation to a fatal crash that killed a Colden man on April 12.
According to Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard, Kody Schroeder was operating a vehicle in which Chauncy Kloiber was a passenger when Schroeder struck the rear of another vehicle on Center Road subsequently sending his vehicle into a ditch. The impact of the crash killed Kloiber, who was riding in the back seat, and severely injured the front seat passenger.
Schroeder was arraigned this morning in Colden Town Court and is at the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $50,000.00 bail; additional court proceedings are scheduled for Tuesday in Town of Colden court.
The sheriff’s Crash Investigation Unit believes drug impairment and speed were factors in the incident.
