TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 33-year-old inmate in the Niagara County Jail is facing serious charges, accused of attempted murder-for-hire.

According to Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour, Benito L. Gonzalez was trying to arrange the murder of a victim and a witness from a previous case he had been arrested on.

Gonzalez was indicted by a Niagara County Grand Jury on two counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of first degree attempted murder by contract killing, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, and a single county of second-degree criminal solicitation.

Gonzalez is being held without bail at the Niagara County Jail and is set to return to court on Sept. 12.
