BUFFALO — Northeast District officers of the Buffalo Police Department recovered a gun stolen from the Schuyler County Sheriff’s office Wednesday morning while pursuing an assault suspect.

According to BPD, while the suspect was running from officers just before 2 a.m. on Norfolk Avenue, he discarded a loaded revolver.

A short time, officers apprehended the individual — 22-year-old Alphonso Payne of Buffalo — as he was trying to hop a fence. Payne was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property: firearms, and obstruction of governmental administration.

Payne was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center.
